Welcome to my online portfolio, my name is Ryszard (Rick) Gold, a digital media professional from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This site is designed to showcase examples of my work and provide information on the services I provide. The greyscale nature of the design is to allow the colour of my work to be highlighted. Each portfolio has chronologically ordered examples of my work and can be viewed in a slideshow or as individual images. Each piece has a caption containing more information about it including the date of creation.

I have been doing digital media in some form or another for 20 years and professionally for 10 years. Over that time, I have found my own style and formed certain design standards that I adhere to in all of my work. One of my firm beliefs is that any web designer or graphic artist should be just that, an artist. What I used to do with a paint brush and canvas I do now with a mouse and keyboard. Anyone can take a course in how to use Photoshop or how to program HTML, but it takes creativity to make a project that truly communicates.

At the same time the creativity needs to be balanced by the technical skills to be able to run the applications and program the code. I’ve been blessed with technical ability as well as artistic skills and this has allowed me to make advanced websites that not only look good, but provide a great user experience.

Web Design - I offer full custom web design and development, all based on profiling of your needs and preferences. I refuse to use templates as I feel it does not allow a website to truly communicate your purpose and message. I offer variable rates for personal, non-profit and business sites.

Video - I cover all aspects of video from development to final production of a project. I operate the camera and sound equipment individually or I can coordinate a team for larger events. I can do all aspects of editing including graphics and sound, and then finally produce a product for final distribution. Prices are quoted on a per project basis.

Photography - I may be hired to photograph your event, your products, or you.

3D - I do pure art commissions, prototype rendering and architectural walkthroughs, including animation. Prices are quoted on a per project basis.

2D - Logos, creation of collateral materials, photo manipulation all done on an hourly rate.

Since 2001, I have done web site design and development for a wide variety of clients. I’ve dealt with individuals and businesses in Canada, the US and a few of the Caribbean Islands. I design in Photoshop and use Dreamweave to code, using HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and MySQL databases.

Since 2005, I produced various corporate and creative video projects. Using Sony digital video cameras and Final Cut Pro, I have produced projects for the seismic industry with over 5000 units in circulation.

Though I have been writing professionally for only a short time, it is something I enjoy and I hope to expand my portfolio in this area. So far, I have written for the seismic industry quarterly publication, The Source, as well as my own original internet-based articles.

From helicopters in the middle of nowhere, to government dignitaries like Norman Kwong, I have had the opportunity to photograph many exciting people and places.

I was inspired by the classic computer game Myst to start my 3d work. I love being able to create images from my imagination. I’ve become so adept at Bryce that I rarely need the support of any other 3D program to create what I need.

The natural extension of my painting was creating art on the computer. Beginning with ClarisWorks on an Apple Color Classic to the Adobe Creative Suite 5 running on a 27” i7 iMac, I’ve done small business flyers to large scale outdoor public advertisements.
